“God Sends Samuel”
Bible Story
1 Samuel 2:26-28
Children's Bible: Story where Samuel leaves Hannah to live as God' helper with Eli
Devotional Activity
From “My ABC Bible Verses”: John 14:6, Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life…”
We read a story that incorporated this verse, said the verse three times, then went through the verses we have already covered.
I also made little verse cards with all the verses we have covered. I placed them on the coffee table. The boys can pick them up anytime they want and ask us to read it.
Letter Activity
The boys watercolored the letter 'J'. I asked that they pay close attention to staying inside the lines. I think they both did a terrific job. I also love the colors they chose!
Bible Activity
We re-enacted the Bibel story we read. I was Eli, the priest. The boys pretended to be Hannah, and their stuffed animals were “Samuel”.
'Hannah' was supposed to say: “This is Samuel. He will be your helper.”
Then, 'Samuel” (stuffed animal) was handed over to me/Eli.
'Eli' says: “Samuel will be with me and serve God.”
The first time we did this, 'A' forgot what to say, and said:
” I am done with him. Here, you can have him!”
We did this over and over, changing characters…
Music
We played and sang, “Samuel, Samuel”
Math Activity
The boys drew two baby faces in each square. I introduced the concept of counting by twos…
Life Skills
We all learned how to bake a pumpkin! I cut off the top and we all gathered the seeds. Here are the boys scooping with spoons:
Pumpkin fractions! Here is a picture of the four quarters…
I further divided into 1/8's and baked on cookie sheets at 375 degrees for one hour.
After placing the pulp through a strainer to get rid of the excess water, we counted out two cup increments and placed them into plastic gallon bags for freezing. We had five bags with 2 cups each and one bag with 1.5 cups. Again, I introduced the concept of counting by 2's…
