Lesson 5/28/07

Bible
Children’s Everyday Bible-We read the story where God told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac to test his faith, then gave him a ram to sacrifice instead.  I shared with the boys that Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice and we no longer have to make these kind of sacrificial gestures to God.

Memory Verse
Practiced 2 Corinthians 9:7

Read Aloud
Mother Goose- "Ring a Ring of Rosies"  we also did the action to this.
‘Scuffy the Tugboat’

Language Arts
‘Developing the Early Learner’-The boys had to color the item that belonged to the picture at left:

Social Studies
‘Things People Do’: The Builder

Character
‘365 Manners…’. We learrned about Napkin etiquette: after the blessing, place napkin in lap where it is to stay through the meal.  If you have greasy fingers, wipe them on the napkin in your lap.  If you need to wipe your mouth, use the corner of the napkin and place it back on your lap.  If you need to leave the table, place the napkin on the seat, not on the table.
We looked up different napkin folds online and tried our hand at them.
We also learned about 10 things you must never do at the table: (I am quizzing the boys as I type this.  Let’s see how many they remember…)
1)Do not talk about gross things(A)
2)Do not take such a big bite that it alters your face(R)
3)Do not point the knife at someone(A)
4)Do not lean on one elbow and turn away from someone(A)
5)Don’t put a knife in your mouth
6)Don’t lean back on your chair
7)Don’t pick your teeth at the table with a toothpick
8)Don’t fish around on the service platter for the biggest piece
9)Don’t chew with your mouth open
10)Don’t push the plate back when finished

Right Choices-We learned about asking for and giving forgiveness.

Reading
100 Lessons- Lesson 10.  I am torn.  This is so far, too easy for ‘A’, and too difficult for ‘R’.  I know it gets more challenging for ‘A’, but I am bored with this.  I hope taht ‘R’ is getting a little soemthing out of it.  I will keep trying a little longer.

Math
Singapore Earlybird 1A-Lesson 10: The boys are now learning about ‘sets’.
