We live in a neighborhood that starts the 4th of July in late June. Sounds like fun? Not really. It is no fun having to listen to loud booms, screams, and whistles all the time. Typically, this has never been an issue, because we are always out of town at this time, but since the 4th landed on a Wednesday this year, DH needed to stay in town for work.
On the night of the 3rd, we were awake until 2am, listening to firecrackers. Even though I love my neighbors, this made it very hard for me to like them.
On a whim, I decided to suggest to DH that we go an check ourselves into the Westin Bellevue for the night. We have points to use, so it would not cost anything. So, after attending a fabulous potluck BBQ dinner at our friends, the Anders, we headed into Bellevue to check into the Westin. We swam in their pool until aobut 9:30pm, then ordered room service for dessert and were thrilled to discover that we’d be able to see the big city fireworks from our room. It turns out that the display was just across the street from our hotel, and not only did we have the best view from the 17th floor, we were also able to see displays in the other neighborhoods of Renton and West Seattle. It was great to see the horizon lit up like Christmas lights, not just from the big displays, but from the private celebrations as well. The boys were beyond thrilled and I think a new family tradition was born, (assuming we would need to stay home on the 4th).
That's a nice hotel! We have a display out here every year too. Fireworks are not allowed in AZ (to dry) but the city puts them on. They are fun to watch. I am glad you had a nice holiday.
