Leigh hosted today’s school. The theme was "The Body." We opened with circle time and sang "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes", and "Five Senses". We also played a couple of short games where I (leigh) had a child do an action and the kids had to guess what was being done with which body parts (ex. taking a bow at the waist, wiggling ears, turning neck, flapping hands at the wrist).
There were three stations:
Station One- The kids donned a body puzzle and learned about the functions of certain organs and where they are located. They then had a drawing of their torso and had to draw the organs on it.
C3 and the body puzzle…
Baby N, AJ, and Kathy…
‘A’ and ‘R’ were sick and were sequestered in their rooms during the co-op time. But, they enjoyed playing with the body puzzle afterwards…
Station Two had six items. The kids explored these items, using all five senses and narrated their experience for a worksheet.
Station Three was this great game called ‘Hulabaloo’. This is perfect for young kids.
During snack break, I had the kids sit in the kitchen and watch popcorn pop in the machine. None of them had seen popcorn pop this way. I had them focus on their senses while watching it pop. They were so excited!
The lessons were over, but the moms were enjoying some "chat time", so we planted the kids in front of the TV for one "Blues Clues" episode…hey, ‘Blues Clues’ is educational!
How awesome! You guys have some terrific ideas.
