This week’s science covered condensation (gas to liquid) and evaporation (liquid to gas). We watched a few experiments on the "Discover and Do" DVD, and then performed a couple of them.
Experiment 1:
We took a couple of washcloths and soaked them in water, then wrung them out. We placed one cloth on a plate and the other in the plastic bag. We checked it the next day. What do you think happened? Were they both still wet? Both dry?
Here is a video that shows the results:
Experiment #2:
We took combined water and sugar and added food coloring. The experiment says to let it sit in a warm area for a few days. Since it’s December, even though it is nice outside, it’s not particularly warm, so we sped up the process by placing it in a warm oven for the day. The water evaporated and formed sugar crystals… RAINBOW Sugar!!
Stirring the sugar water
Adding food color…
Colored sugar water. The experiment called for the water to be placed in pie tins or foil.
The final product. These are edible and can be used on ice cream or in a drink.
