The boys took the CAT a few weeks ago.  ‘A’ took the one for first grade, and ‘R’ took the one for Kindergarten.  We just received the results.    I am happy with the results overall.  It’s important to note that this test measures against all the students who took the test nationally, so the result is not percentage of how many they got right, but what their standing is among their peers…

‘A’/First Grade

Vocabulary     20 out of 20 correct  Percentile: 91  Stanine: 8
Comprehension  20 out of 20 correct  Percentile 96 Stanine: 9
Language Expression  20 out of 20 correct  Percentile: 90  Stanine: 8
Math computation 17 out of 20 correct Percentile: 57  Stanine: 5
Concepts & Application 18 out of 20 correct Percentile: 82 Stanine: 7
Reading Total: 40 out of 40 correct Percentile: 95 Stanine: 8
Mathematice total: 35 our of 40 correct Percentile: 69 Stanine: 6

The percentile figure means that the student scored as well as or better than that percentage of students who took the test nationally.  Stanine indicates a relative standing also: 1, 2, and 3 reflect below average performance; 4, 5, and 6 are considered average; 7, 8, and 9 are above average.
