A nice perk to what we do for a living is that we get free passes to the CA State Fair.  We also have access to the grounds while it is closed.  This is one of the days when the boys and I got to enjoy the Fair…

We entered the grounds a couple hours before the Fair opened and walked around the livestock exhibits.  We got to watch the exhibitors prepare their animals, washing, feeding, grooming.  We had a nice talk with a woman who showed the boys her goats and talked about the breed and specific characteristics to that breed…

Watching a 4H project that a young woman set up.  It’s a video of her goat giving birth…

Part of the fairgrounds contains a waterpark…

Walking the amusement park before grounds was fun  Here is a shot of my favorite ride.  Looking forward to when the boys are tall enough to ride it with me.  David can’t because of issues with his ears.

This is a picture of a skybridge that creates a quick way to get across the fairground.  They have misters that cool you off from the heat…

A little village was created that educates kids on fire safety.  The kids received a passport and attended a lecture in each cottage.  They received a stamp for each lecture they attended.  If they completed all six lectures, they got to turn the passport in for a bandana.

The first cottage contained a lesson on what was considered a ‘tool’ or a ‘toy’.  They also had a model fully clothed in fireman gear and the boys got to try on the fireman jacket…

The next cottage contained a story that was read about the history of ‘Smoky the Bear’.  He was a little cub caught in a tree during a fire.  We was rescued and treated for burns, and became the iconic symbol for preventing forest fires.

The third cottage taught the boys about the positive effects of fire and its necessity.  We learned about  a type of pine cone that can only release its seeds through fire…

The fourth was a trail path that taught us about responsible camping and waste management…

The fifth cottage taught us about making an escape plan during a fire in the house, and also about the dangers of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The last station was a puppet show that re-capped what everyone had learned…
Here’s a picture of the boys wearing their new bandanas!

One of the halls contains my favorite exhibits.  It’s a representation of all the counties in California.  Each county creates its own exhibit to highlight what makes that county special and unique.  One of the counties had a little putt-putt golf course that the boys enjoyed playing on…

This county promotes duck hunting…

This lovely exhibit (not a county) contained animals from all over the world…

They have a fun little activity called ‘Paint a Pony’.  The kids dipped their hands in paint and, well, painted a pony…

We ran into our awesome next door neighbors, Doug and Keri.  They have a precious toddler and a baby.  Here is ‘M’ getting ready to paint…

Shudder…
