You might have noticed our little blog/homeschool is no longer called ‘Riverbend Prep.’ We lovingly bid adieu to the name that identified our homeschool through elementary and middle school years. Riverbend was the neighborhood we lived in when we were in Washington state.
The boys go into 9th grade this year and everything changes. Everything gets documented now and activities and time management becomes more intentional. A new name for our school was decided upon, to reflect and honor this next phase of their educational journey.
We chose to name our homeschool ‘Midas Quarry’ because….
- We live on Midas.
- The myth about King Midas tells the story of a man who was given the ability to turn things to gold. He was thrilled for his wealth and material success, until the time he hugged his daughter and she turned to gold. (Lesson of how wealth and success should never be given priority over love and family.)
- A ‘quarry’ is a place, typically a large, deep pit, from which stone or other materials are or have been extracted. (Our quarry extracts stones/materials of knowledge, truth and wisdom.)
- Isaiah 51:1 “Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness, you who seek the Lord: look to the rock from which you were hewn, and to the quarry from which you were dug.”
