Whew! What a week! Here are the highlights of our road trip…
Saturday-Sunday: Finished packing MIL's stuff and drove from Seattle to Sandpoint, Idaho. We left late and did not get in until almost 10pm. I rode alone with the boys. They were amazing! We had a great time singing songs and making up new ones. We went to a friend of MIL's house for dinner Sunday night. They have a gorgeous home with a large veranda upon which we ate our salmon dinner. They had horses, and the boys got to feed them. They also played with the dogs, cats, and fish. They were in heaven!
Here is 'A' at a rest stop. He is sitting in the only shade; the shadow of a sign!
'A' playing homemade flutes with Grandpa 'R'.
Monday-Tuesday: We left Sandpoint and drove to Chelan. We arrived about 7pm,. My family had waited for us for dinner and wow, what a treat!
Every 4th of July we go to my aunt and uncles house. We have a different theme each year for a special dinner. We choose a state, dress up according to that theme, and my aunt creates a menu. This year, the theme was “Louisiana”. (We have also done Hawaii, Texas, and New York). She made a BBQ chicken, rice and beans, a slaw, (I know I am forgetting something else), and a Louisiana mud pie for dessert.
'R' was a bottle of Tabasco Sauce, and 'A' was 'Emeril'. I could not coordinate and outfit for me and DH in time, so we just wore beads.
My mom, cousin, BIL and family, all had to leave on the 4th. We were all pretty tired and were in bed before the fireworks started on the lake.
Wednesday-Thursday: After a mellow boat ride aling the south shores of Lake Chelan, we drove to Leavenworth. For those unfamiliar with Leavenworth, this is a quaint little mountain town in the middle of Washington. It is set up to look like it would be a town in Germany. All of the businesses have to have some sort of embellishment or design to tie in to the theme. It is also the perfect spot for white water rafting and camping.
We checked into the KOA 'K'ampground and proceeded to pitch our tent. A hailstorm began and we realized we did not have our rainfly for the tent! DH's sis joined us and the two of them went to a local lumberyard and purchased tarp.
It took a while to adjust to the lack of privacy in a KOA, but the amenities made up for it. The boys had a blast at the pool, and payground. They also loved getting ice cream (and I loved my mocha) at the Koffee Kabin.
Our campsite…DH, SIL, A and R in pic.
'R' enjoying watermelon!
There was a bit more driving and “transition” time than I expected, but on the whole, we had a great time with family.
Looks like you had a wonderful vacation. I love the idea of featuring a different State–how clever! The boys looked absolutely adorable in those outfits! You should send those into Food Network~~too cute!
Did you make sure that “A” said “Bam!” a lot? LOL
