Title: Corduroy
Author and Illustrator: Don Freeman
This is our last book in the BFIAR curriculum!
Summary
A little girl wants a stuffed bear.
Bible
Corduroy is looking for a friend. We read Proverbs 17:17, “a friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.”
We talked about what makes a good friend.
'A' replied: “hugs”, “invite them over to play”, “sharing”
'R' replied: “play cars with them”
Manners
We discussed examples of good manner shown in the book. Examples include:
-Lisa quietly obeying her mother when she left the store.
-Lisa asks her mother politely for the bear and said, 'please'.
-Lisa was polite to the saleslady and said, “no, thank you”.
Homes and Habitats
We discussed loving each other and having a home. We talked about what makes a family and a home.
We also rented the video of 'Corduroy' and the boys were able to watch it. 'A' kept getting a little disturbed when the movie would deviate from the book. We discussed how movies will often do that.
