Happy September!  I am still feeling a little low, but we were able to get a lesson in.

Fingerplay

“What do you know?”

Bible Story

Genesis 39:1-5

The New Bible in Pictures for Little Eyes

Focus: Joseph works in Egypt.

Active Exploration

The boys got their stuffed animals and I pretended to give the animals “commands” to give to the boys, like “raise us over your heads”, “take us to the front door”, etc.

The idea was to see how Joseph was put in charge of telling others what to do.

Letter Activity

I had each boy choose a letter between A-D.  “A” chose 'A', and “R” chose 'D'.  The painted thin glue on their letter and sprinkled mint flakes over it.

Bible Activity

We talked about being alone (like when Joseph was alone in the cistern, and then when he was taken far away from his family and was sent as a slave to Egypt.).  I asked for circumstances when the boys were ever alone.  “A” said, “When we are in timeout and when we are at the grocery store and you go to get something and leave us at the cart.”

I asked, “how would you feel if you had to leave your family and live somewhere else.”  “A” answered, “sad”.  “R” answered, “happy” (Thanks, “R”!)

We then talked about how God is always with us, and how we are never really alone.  We prayed and gave thanks to God for always being there and to help us remember that He is always there.

P.E.

Played at the park, Centennial Fields.  It is soooo windy today, but warm.

Read Aloud

Stone Soup

Begin Beatrix Potter series

Extra:

Here is a picture from Wednesday, when we made “Stone Soup” for dinner.  I went a little crazy with the barley, so it was more like “Stone Sludge”, but the flavor was good, and the kids enjoyed making it in accordance to the book.

I have always wanted to have a Stone Soup Party. Inviting all out preschool friends and telling them what one item to bring. The we could read the story and make the soup. Maybe this year?
