Lesson 11/30/06

Due to snow, my niece, K, was with us and participated.  Since we were housebound, we doubled our lesson today.

Fingerplay

“What do you Know?”

Bible Story

1 Kings 3:23-28; 4:29; 5:3-5; 6:11-13

Children's Bible:  The story of Solomon and the two mothers

The story where Solomon built a temple to house God's ark

Math Activity

I placed five different pairs of shoes on the floor all in different sizes.  I had the boys “pair” them and them line them up in order from smallest to largest.  The kids then had to try on the shoes and say whether they were too small, too large, or just right.  I then had them line them up from lightest to darkest.

Letter Activity

This is the beginning of review week.  I quizzed 'R' on the letters we have done so far (A-L) and he was able to get them all (uppercase).  I quizzed “A” on upper and lower and he got them all.

Art Activity

I gave the boys marshmallows and toothpicks to build a “temple”.  They much preferred eating them over building.

Bible Activity

I gave each child a piece of paper.  They are to follow my directions one at a time.

Draw a cloud at the top of the page. (Represents Solomon's dream)

Draw a smiley face in the middle of the page (Represents Solomon)

Draw a rectangle at the bottom of the page (Represents the temple he built)

I had the kids act out the following:

-swing ax to cut down a tree

-saw wood

-pound nails

-stir gold in a pot over fire

-pick up heavy bricks

etc.

This activity represented the hard work the people did to build the temple.

Music

Listened and sang to “Solomon”, “The Temple”, “Listen to Wisdom”
