Will you young child understand the catechism they are preacing? No. But, that is not your job. It’s the Holy Spirit’s job to get them to understand. Rote memorization is a building block to deeper understanding.

Relationship between Paul and Timothy: 2 Timothy
Do not buy into the delusion that the you have to be your child’s "friend"
You cannot disciple someone who does not respect you.
Parents, keep conflict between you away from children-show a united front
Pray for your children constantly.
Spiritual battle needs spiritual weapons. Intercede on behalf of your children.
Intimacy is crucial in discipling our children. Take honest spiritual inventory of your child.
