My friend, Kathy, and I decided to take an early morning hike (5:30am) to Rattlesnake Ledge, a 4 mile round trip hike.

As I was driving to the trail, a small herd of elk crossed my path.  I slowed down and three decided to stay near the road and eat.  Then, one left and two trotted along side me until I got to the trail!  It was incredible!!

Just as Kathy and I began the hike, the cutest little brown rabbit hopped in front of us.  The jumped and did some sort of flip turn midair.  It was adorable.

I had tried this hike with the boys before, but had never made it to the top.  I could always see people at the top and wanted to be up there.  I was determined to make it up there and we kept a pretty steady but fast pace.  Kathy, an avid gardener, was cracking me up because she said it was taking everything in her power to not pull up the weeds on the side of the trail!

We made it to the top in an hour.  The view was amazing and we had it all to ourselves!

I had the worst heel pain later in the afternoon and hobbled around.  I need to get some better footwear.  But, I hope to get a few more of these early morning hikes in before the days get shorter.
