Fun Hair Times

While we are in COVID lockdown “Shelter in Place”, all salons are closed. Everyone’s hair is growing out quite a bit. David took a razor to his. The boys thought it would be fun if I took a straight iron to theirs…

EMO

COVID has made us have to figure out how to socialize in creative ways. Currently, groups are not allowed to gather. If you have to go out, you should wear a mask and keep six feet apart from each other. Our family has followed the guidelines since before California went on lock down, mid-May.

For my birthday, my girlfriends Shanti, Tina, and Eun met with me at a viewpoint to watch the sun set. We sat outside and sat six feet a part from each other. Eun brought me flowers from her garden. Tina made me an amazing loaf of sourdough walnut bread.

Then, later, my friend Elyse hosted an online Zoom party that included everyone doing facials on themselves, using charcoal colored masks! (I have a photo, but am not posting it LOL!) There were about 15 of us and everyone took turns sharing words of affirmation to me, then they mailed those cards to me. It was a special, sweet moment, creating a precious memory.

Some COVID Funnies

Ryan’s 16th!

We had big plans for this big birthday. An overnight trip to San Francisco. But, an ugly little bugger called COVID decided to make a worldwide trip and form a global pandemic that closed the world.

Trip canceled. Now what? How do we still make his day special. We decided to defer and not completely cancel, so we all have something to look forward to once this is over. We bought Ryan an updated iPhone; one that will get him through his college years. He was thrilled!

Of course, our traditional “eat whatever you want for breakfast”. This year, Ryan’s palette seems to be maturing a bit. He asked for a bowl of ramen, one giri, and a boba drink.

He spent the day on video and phone calls with friends and family. His Antee Sara made a cake at her home in Brooklyn and she and Charlie sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to him!

We celebrated with having cupcakes and dinner delivered…

…and Ryan received a wonderful surprise with a drop off delivery of all kinds of treats from his buddies, brother Zach and Isaiah!!

A recap of breakfast through the years….

My wonderful Grandpa Jerry passed away on March 13, just a few days shy of his 98th birthday. My love to him and fond memories always.

Gerald Dewain Gronley Obituary

Gerald Dewain Gronley passed on March 13, 2020 surrounded by family. Jerry was the second of 10 children born to Hans and Marie Gronley in Fairdale, North Dakota.

He knew early on that farm life was not for him. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps after graduation from high school. Upon leaving the CCC he got a job at the Naval Shipyard in Bremerton, Washington where he learned woodworking skills. After enlisting in the Army Air Corp his flight instructor introduced him to Betty Morrison whom he married on April 26, 1944. He was stationed on Corsica and flew 65 missions with the B-25 J Mitchell and received the Distinguished Flying Cross. He exemplified the Greatest Generation.

Upon the end of the war he returned to Bremerton where he became an apprentice at the shipyard. Although he enjoyed shipbuilding his heart’s desire was to go to college. He earned his mechanical engineering degree from the University of Washington at the age of 34. His first job upon graduation was with Nickum and Sons after which he worked with Crown Zellerbach until he retired in 1985. He built a home on Camano Island, and he and Betty moved there permanently. He and Betty traveled throughout the country and saw every state but two. They also went to Norway to visit his father’s family, as well as Hong Kong, China, Australia and Mexico. He and Betty had their 60th wedding anniversary in Hawaii and Betty passed the following year.

After retirement he started using a computer and wrote poems and made birthday cards for all the family. He signed his cards “Yelnorg” which is Gronley spelled backwards. He continued making cards until the summer of 2019.

Jerry was a cherished friend to many and a wonderful role model for his family. He was able to see all of his grand and great grandkids before his passing and his words were “you are the greatest”.

Preceded in death by his wife Betty, and seven siblings.

Jerry is survived by his children, Gary Gronley (Julee), DeAnne Howisey (Bob), grandchildren Leigh Arevalo (David), Devin Gronley, Terry Howisey, Robyn Howisey (Dan), great grandchildren Paige, Kaylee, Alex, Ryan, Henry, Gwyn and Emma, brother Winford Gronley, sister Gloria Sandon, cousins Lois and Veva, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Per his request the family will hold a private memorial.

Reading Glasses

David and I have the same strength for reading glasses. We store our collection on our bedroom lamp!

My husband loves fresh flowers. For his birthday, I got him a unique birthday bouquet to represent a lush, mossy, forest floor. For some reason, I did not get an overall photo, but here are a few close up shots..

Alex’s New Toy/Tool

Alex came to us one day and told us that he had been doing some coding work for the ATF/Roblox video game and that he needed an account so he could get paid. I, at first, was skeptical and was afraid he was getting scammed, but upon further investigation, this turned out to be legit, and he made $500! He decided to use the income and purchase a drone to help with his filmmaking interests…
