Hidden Falls Hike

…with my buddy Eun and our kids…we got an early start and played in the water until noon. Then, the hot, dusty hike back up the ravine….

Saturdays are for long runs. This one was along the Johnny Cash Trail in Folsom. It’s a bike trail that runs parallel to Folsom prison. Everyone did a different amount of miles, between 5-10 miles.  My friend Henna and I knocked out 7.5, then joined everyone for breakfast.

Got the jump right in one shot!

I am honored to get to volunteer at the final aid station of this incredible trail race. It is a 50 mile race where the runners had 14 hours to complete. It’s hard and hot, and not everyone completes it.

I have served at the 44.6 mile aid station (the last one) for the past two years. It amazed me to witness what the human body is capable of, and what the human spirit is capable of.

As an aid station volunteer, we make sure they get the fuel and hydration they need. We also water them down with an ice sponge bath. We offer words of encouragement and strategy to complete the remaining six miles and we make sure they leave our station before the deadline. It makes for a long, satisfying day, serving our amazing trail runners.

There’s nothing more refueling and refreshing than time with your girlfriends. A few of us went to South Lake Tahoe and spent a weekend at my friend Stacy’s vacation home in the Tahoe Keys. It is located on one of the lagoons.

We took turns exploring the keys in a paddleboat and kayak. We also did a little bit of stand up paddling as well!

We celebrated this beautiful friend, Tina. Words cannot describe how much I cherish our friendship. She is an amazing person and I love her tons! These two lovely blondes are Stacy and Jodi.

The whole gang: me, Heather, Stacy, Jodi, Jill, Eun, and Tina

Jodi and Eun had to head home, but the rest of us went on a hike up to Eagle Lake.  We were all responsible for providing one of the meals for the weekend and I chose to make the sack lunches for the hike. The chipmunk was quite obnoxious and persistent in trying to get to our food.

It was pretty warm and we enjoyed standing in the water. We got a late start, otherwise we would have done a little swimming. Such a wonderful weekend!

Welcome Baby ‘M’!

My brother in law and his girlfriend just had a baby girl! We drove to Oakland to spend the day snuggling with this little treasure…

Lake Chelan Trip 2018

David’s mom joined us for almost two months to recover from shoulder replacement surgery. Davis stayed home while I took the boys to Mt. Hermon, then up to Lake Chelan for our annual family gathering.

We drove to Bend, OR. and spent the night at McMenamin’s Old Francis School. We have stayed here a few times, and they recently acquired and remodeled a few houses behind them. These houses has secret rooms you can go to, including a secret bar! We found all the rooms (look for the blue lights).  These two photos show the wall with artwork that is actually the door to the secret room.  The second photo is the interior of this secret room.

Stopped for breakfast in a little town called Grass Valley, OR. Blink, and you will miss it.

I dropped the boys off at Uncle Devin’s house for a fun weekend. We all got to meet his lovely girlfriend, Amy. They spent the weekend riding ATV’s, target practice, watching a small town parade, and eating elk tacos and bear sausage.

Meanwhile, I drove up to Leavenworth and stayed in a sweet mother in law studio, right on the river. This is a view from the lawn…

My awesome gal pal joined me for a night. She arrived early Saturday morning and we walked through downtown Leavenworth. They have a bunch of wine tasting rooms open and we did our share of eating and drinking through the town. This is a view from our dining table at Yodelin, where we went for lunch. They made a delicious vegetarian bahn mi sandwich with sweet potatoes. Yum!!IMG_0959

Other restaurants we went to were:

South – a fabulous Latin American restaurant.

Sulla Vita – Mediterranean dishes to share.

Pavz Cafe Bistro – Yummy breakfast

Monday, I picked up the boys and went to Chelan. We spent the night at my aunt and uncle’s house. Tuesday, the whole family gathered (minus Katy and her family due to strep, and cousin Brett.) We went to cousin Jenna’s house for a BBQ, then drove to Orondo, where we were sharing a house with Devin, Amy, the girls and their boyfriends.

4th of July! This year we did a patriotic theme…

IMG_0887We go to Mt. Hermon Family Camp every year for the past eight(?) years. David stayed home with his mom this year, and I took the boys.  The structured activities and speakers were wonderful as always.  We also had a fun day in Santa Cruz. Saw the ‘Incredibles 2’ movie, met Toni and Lori for pizza at ‘Pizza my Heart‘, then shopped the rest of the day.  Alex wanted to take the train back to Mt. Hermon, but Ryan wanted to keep shopping (I drove). We dropped Alex off and Ryan and I stayed in town. We had dinner at The Pour Taproom. We played Jenga while there as well.

David’s mom is staying with us while she recovers from shoulder surgery. We realized physical therapy appointments would be easier to attend while staying with us.

We went to our friend’s Crystal and Erics house for a waffle breakfast. It had been a while since we’d all been together. It was nice to catch up.

I hosted a light summer fare potluck with some of my friends. It was unusually windy and cool and we spent most of the night on the patio wrapped in blankets. It was a sweet evening catching up with our busy lives.

RyGuy Gets Braces!!

The time has come. Cutie pie RyGuy will have braces for the next 18 months…

Just prior to the appointment, we picked up many of the items of food that he can’t eat once he as braces. He sat in the orthodontist’s parking lot eating licorice, jerky, popcorn, etc…
